Why Dry Suits

There are 3 type of exposure suit

  • Wet

    • Semi Dry

      • Dry

During your training we will explain the difference between them.  However, the most comfortable to use in the Temperate Seas of Northern Europe and the Mediterranean in Winter are dry suits.  Because of the range of sizes and costs we do not have a stock of them. We have 3 available for those who are short in stature.

Your Ocean Diver training includes instruction on the use of Dry Suits - this is because the BSAC believes that not using a dry suit in British waters increases the risk of a problem occurring. Would you go out in the middle of winter dressed in Summer clothing and expect to be warm and comfortable!  Well, we have often seen PADI school trainees diving in wet suit suits in the middle winter!  The poor souls were freezing.  Most PADI schools charge extra for dry suit training (because wet suits are the cheaper option).  We do not. Also these same trainees are being instructed by Instructors in dry suits!

Dry Suits can be hired locally for £12 for the weekend. Our Equipment officer can help you out.  You can also buy them second hand for about £100 - £150.  Brand new they range from £ 300 - £800.
